The holiday season is upon us, and what better way to spread joy and warmth than by including your canine family members in the festivities? Here are 5 pawsome activities that will make this holiday season unforgettable for both you and your furry bestie.
1. Photos with Santa at Tacoma’s Bass Pro Shop.
Pick up gifts for the family (or yourself, no judgement here 😄) and get photos of your dog with Santa at Bass Pro Shop’s Santa’s Wonderland through December 24th. Photos are by appointment only and customers will receive a free 4x6 print. You can schedule your appointment online at https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/santas-wonderland
2. The Magnuson Holiday Fun Run
On December 23rd, join the Magnuson Series at Magnuson Park in Seattle for their Holiday Fun Run which benefits Earth Runs. Dogs are welcome and after you cross the finish line you can treat yourself to the hot chocolate bar. Festive holiday sweaters and hats are encouraged. To find more information or to register, visit the Magnuson Series website at https://magnusonseries.org/.
3. Visit a Christmas tree farm
Many Christmas tree farms are dog-friendly as long as dogs are kept on a leash and most offer a choice between pre-cut and u-cut trees. Two area farms that are still open for this season are:
- Trinity Tree Farm in Issaquah. They are open until December 17th this year. They offer both pre-cut and u-cut trees along with a log cabin gift shop and fire pits to warm up at. On the weekends, they also offer food. For more information, visit their website at https://www.trinitytreefarm.com/tree-farm
- Hunter Family Farm in Olympia. They are open until December 22nd this year. They were voted the best tree farm in Washington in 2020 and 2021 by The Pioneer Woman. You can visit their gift shop and with their farm animals and on weekends, they have food concessions available. Their website is https://www.hunterfamilyfarm.com/home.
4. Drive through Christmas lights display
Enjoy the magic of twinkling Christmas lights without ever having to leave the comfort of your car. Pierce County is once again holding their Fantasy Lights display in Spanaway at Spanaway Park. It’s a two-mile route adorned with over 300 animated displays of Christmas lights. Pets are welcome but must remain in the car. The cost is $10 per car. For more info and to purchase tickets, visit their website at https://www.piercecountywa.gov/1253/Fantasy-Lights#location
5. Argosy Christmas Ships
While you can’t take your pups on an Argosy Christmas ship cruise, you can still enjoy them from the waterfront. The ships sail Lake Washington and Lake Union covered in lights and with onboard carolers. In addition, the ships make stops at pre-arranged locations for onshore performances by the carolers and some locations will have bonfires to gather around and warm up. You can find their schedule at https://www.argosycruises.com/christmas-ship-festival-schedule/. Why not make a night of it by having dinner before or after at one of Seattle’s dog-friendly restaurants like Fremont Brewing?
As you embark on these festive adventures with your dog, remember that the most important part is spending quality time together. Cherish these moments and create lasting memories that will make the holidays truly special for both you and your furry friend. Whether it's photos with Santa or visiting a Christmas tree farm, the joy of the season is even brighter when shared with your canine companion.
